Frequently asked questions

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FELLOW AND AN INTERN?

MED Fellows are college graduates with a strong background as educators-- but they may have less experience teaching remote medicine or outdoor skills, and are eager to increase their mastery of their chosen subject matter. All Fellows receive a full scholarship, and international fellows generally have their living expenses and airfare covered by the MED Alliance. Successful Fellows are eligible for promotion to the instructor team following the conclusion of their programs. Interns may still be working on their bachelor’s degree, and tend to have less experience as educators and outdoor professionals. Interns receive more intensive mentorship and feedback, and the MED Alliance often provides pre-internship training to help ensure they’re well prepared for programs. Interns pay tuition to cover the expenses of their programming and mentorship. Following the conclusion of their programs, successful Interns are eligible for full Fellowships and their associated scholarships.

HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?

Initially, each interested applicant will select the associated Fellowship and/or Internship opportunity through the MED Alliance website and submit an inquiry. This inquiry is recieved by a member of the MED Alliance administrative team and reviewed. Within two business days of submitting an inquiry, you can expect to recieve further instructions on how to complete the associated application. Each Fellowship and Internship has a unique application process, but all of them will require a resume, and responses to a series of short questions that help us understand who you are as a candidate. Applications for all Fellowships and Internships are accepted on a rolling basis. You can expect to hear back from the us within a few days of the application deadline or sooner. All applicants will receive some sort of notification; qualified applicants will be asked to participate in a short interview.
